Tom Chapman
I enjoy being a participant in this 3,500-year-old discipline we call glass. I have only been involved for the past twenty years. Like most studio glassblowers, I melt clear glass and add colors to each piece using German, American New Zealander, and now even some Asian color products. “Let the Germans do the math and the dusty chemistry,” I like to say.
Working primarily unassisted, each piece is pre-formed by hand. The cooling—or annealing cycle is about 14 hours long to bring the finished pieces of artglass down to room temperature stress-free. Each piece is unique and collectable, is signed by the artist, and ready to become family heirlooms for generations to come
